March Friday Fashion

When I first envisioned this column, as an Irish woman I knew March would be all about green – and that is still certainly the case.

However, seemingly all over the world; winter has continued late into the year, and so my suggestions this month will still be considering a colder climate than expected.

This whole month I’ve been getting plenty of wear out of my olive green poncho – commonly called a ‘cape’ by friends. Capes and ponchos are a great way to keep warm while getting a welcome change from your regular coat or jacket. Deep greens go exceptionally well with tan or light brown.

Karl Lagerfeld’s alpine-inspired posthumous final show took place on Tuesday and the line featured brown or black-and-white one pieces or matching sets, with plunging necklines and exaggerated collars.

The example I’ve included today is an affordable jumpsuit from Express that achieves the major trends of the line and can be matched with a dark green cape. A belt to accessorize will also draw the eye to the waist and create an hourglass shape. Shoes are a little harder as they need to be bulky enough to be warm but can’t be too big so as not to offset the dramatic angles of the poncho, so I suggest narrow black boots.

Also in fashion news, mini-handbags are trending everywhere, from Dior’s hot pink six-inch wide leather bag, to the Mini Le Chiquito which can barely hold more than your keys. While a few small bags here and there are perfect for some everyday use, be mindful of going so small that your bag becomes completely futile!
