Our February Badass Goddess is Empress Myeongseong or Empress Myung-Sung, known informally as Queen Min, was the first official wife of Gojong, the twenty-sixth king of Joseon and the first emperor of the Korean Empire.
She was a real rebel, an assertive and ambitious woman of her time as she was an active advocate for stronger ties with Western countries, China and Russia in attempts to block Japanese influence in Korea. Her heroic endeavors for Korea against the Japanese control were many and she paid for it.
In Gyeongbokgung Palace on October 8th, 1895 the Empress was assassinated by Japanese ronin as an inside coo. It was brutal and unspeakably barbaric. Sources say that she stood fearless while they stabbed, then raped her until they burned her alive.
Women like this have stood for something greater than themselves and were willing to take on what ever it happens with grace and stoicism.
